What I Learned From My GoodFood Subscription Box

We all know the feeling: getting home from work and being so exhausted you don’t want to cook. This is a huge point of shame for me, considering I used to cook for a living. But I found after my long day at the office, coupled with an extra long commute the last thing I wanted to do was figure out what to make for dinner. And if I’m being honest, most of the time I would have to go to the grocery store first to buy the ingredients. This led to me always ordering food, which for three people, could cost up to $50 a meal.

One December evening, as I was redoing my budget, I noticed just how much money I spend on take out… but more on that later. I started thinking, maybe those subscription boxes aren’t that expensive! Then, like it was fate or some creepy algorithm, I received a 50% off coupon to GoodFood.

It’s one month into my subscription and I’m legit loving it… minus the fact that I keep forgetting to pick my meals for the upcoming week. Here are some things I learned from my GoodFood subscription box:

UberEats is Expensive

I didn’t realize how much I was spending on UberEats, until my subscription with GoodFood started. Since I signed up for a subscription box, my VISA statements are noticeably smaller. Don’t let those free delivery fees fool you, each meal ordered through UberEats adds up to a serious credit card bill at the end of the month.

I Miss Cooking

Usually I am exhausted when I get home from work and the last thing I want to do is cook… or so I thought. The truth is, now that I’ve been cooking meals regularly, I look forward to cooking when I get home.  GoodFood forced me to actually get up off the couch and cook again, and I totally love it! I put on some of my favourite songs or a show I’m watching on Netflix and then get cooking! Plus, the recipes are really easy to follow, so it doesn’t require a lot of brain power. The meals are super delicious, I haven’t had one that I didn’t like!

GoodFood Uses A LOT of Plastic

I’ve never seen so much plastic in my life. Everything comes in a plastic bag and then the individual items are in plastic. Guys - it’s 2020, cut. down. on. the. plastic. Glass jars for liquids and paper bags for spices are great alternatives.

Overall, I ‘m glad I signed up for GoodFood. The recipes are delicious, easy to make, and I’m actually cooking three or more days a week now!
